FLU VACCINATION - BOOK YOURS NOW!

If you are:

  • pregnant,
  • 65 years or Over,
  • a child aged 2-3 ,get
  • Live with someone who's at high risk of coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list) or you expect to be with them on most days over winter
  • Receive a carer's allowance, or you're the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
  • Obese (with BMI>40),
  • With the additional risk of severe consequences of COVID to our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic  (BAME) patients, it is particularly important that you take up this flu vaccination offer this season if you fall into one of the eligible patient groups listed,
  • Health and social care staff employed by a registered residential care/nursing home or registered domiciliary care provider and health and care staff employed by a voluntary managed hospice provider,
  • OR suffer from asthma, diabetes or immunosuppression, have a heart, kidney or lung condition, have suffered a stroke or transient ischaemic attack,

       you are considered at greater risk from flu and the implications can be serious. 

The demand for vaccination this year will be extremely high so please ensure you book your appointment and reserve your vaccine.

Flu vaccination is available to our eligible patients every year at the surgery to help protect them against flu and its complications.

Due to COVID, we are expecting greatly increased demand for flu vaccinations in the coming months, and with the COVID threat, it is our absolute priority to help our patients stay fit and healthy during the coming winter months.  We would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that the surgery has measures in place to ensure that our patients feel safe when attending for their appointments. To ensure that we are able to maintain social distancing we ask that when you attend for your appointment you arrive at the appointed time you have been given, and that you wear a facemask or covering.  All of our staff will be wearing PPE and will be signposting you where to go when you arrive.

Flu vaccination

Flu vaccination  is available to our eligible patients every year at the surgery to help protect them against flu and its complications.

Due to COVID we are expecting greatly increased demand for flu vaccinations in the coming months.

More than ever, during the Covid threat we want to give our eligible patients their flu jab; we have planned our capacity to be able to give this important protection to our patients, here at the Surgery.

Delivery of our Flu Vaccinations are expected week commencing 14th September.

The Surgery will be holding flu clinics at weekends along with weekdays throughout September and October.

Those eligible patients who are over 65 or those who are in the at risk category due to a long-term health condition,  will be able to book their appointment online or by contacting the surgery from Monday 10th August.

 

It is our absolute priority to help our patients stay fit and healthy during the coming winter months, and patients can be reassured that the Surgery has measures in place to ensure that patients feel safe when attending for their appointments. Our staff will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment and patients will be asked to wear a face covering or mask.

 

Following the recent Government announcement that the flu vaccination will be expanded to include patients aged 50-64, we await further guidance. Once vaccination of the most ‘at-risk’ groups is underway, the Department of Health and Social Care will work with GP Practices to open the programme further to invite eligible patients. We will be pleased to offer these vaccinations too at the surgery, as soon as the rules are known.

 


We recognise the challenges faced within families during the Covid 19 period has exacerbated the challenges families face in bringing up children.  There are times when a family needs help and support. Early help means providing support as soon as a problem emerges, at any point in a child’s life, from pre-birth through to teenage years.

Corona virus Update

The Royal College of GPs (RCGP)We are a Research and Surveillance Centre Practice

This practice is one of over 600 practices in England contributing pseudonymised data for national research and surveillance.

These data enable continuous monitoring of infections and diseases in the community and is used in ethically approved research. The RCGP RSC is the main source of information for Public Health England (PHE) and helps with prediction and management of flu out-breaks and pandemics.

Providing pseudonymised data does not affect patients, their care or privacy, however if you no longer wish to allow your information to be used, please speak to your GP.


Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)

 

The NHS across Worcestershire and Herefordshire will be better prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases, if the public follows Public Health England advice.

 

The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of patients and staff which may mean your patient experience is subject to change.

 

The Chief Medical Officer announced on Friday 13 March that the country is moving into the ‘Delay’ stage of the response to coronavirus (Covid-19).

 

The new advice issued by the Chief Medical Officer is to stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

  • a high temperature or
  • a new continuous cough

 

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or a hospital. You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

 

Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:

  • you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
  • your condition gets worse
  • your symptoms do not get better after 7 days

 

Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

How to avoid spreading or catching:

There are things you can do to reduce the spread

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve (not hands) when you sneeze

Discard tissues immediately

Wash you hands with soap and water often – use a hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

Avoid close contact with people who are unwell

 Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Do not go to your GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital

Call NHS 111 for advice

  What is self Isolation?

If you are asked to self isolate this is what you should do

Stay at home

Stay away from work, schools or public places

Do not use public transport or taxis

Ask friends or families to run errands for you

Avoid visitors coming to your house – it is ok for delivery of food or essential items.

You may be asked to do this for 14 days to reduce the spread of infection to other people

  What is the treatment for Coronavirus?

There is currently no treatment for this illness

Antibiotics do not help as they do not work against any virus

Any treatment that you are advised to take will be to treat the symptoms not fight the illness

BEWARE OF SCAMMERS

There is heightened coverage around the recent Coronavirus outbreak around the world, which is now severely impacting on the UK and the NHS. 

Unfortunately fraudsters are targeting these circumstances to take advantage of public fear and concern

We have been made aware that our patients are receiving phone calls, texts and letters from fraudsters. They will try and obtain your personal details and in particular your NHS number.

Scammers are sophisticated, opportunistic and will try many ways to get the information they want. They often target the vulnerable.

If you are suspicious, do not give any details over the phone, hang up and then ring your GP Practice to confirm.

Accessing the practice:

There is free parking at the rear of the building, we also have allocated parking for our disabled patients.

Wheelchair access is via the rear entrance.

Patient services are spread over two floors  - GPs and ANPs are all on level 1.  Nurses and HCA's are all on level 2

Toilets are available on all floors and we are in the process of having a RADAR lock fitted to our disabled toilets on level 1.


Extended Access:

In addition to our normal opening hours our GPs offer appointments for the patients either before 08.00am or after 18.30 hrs. every day. 

These appointments are available to book on line (please see Patient Access below for details of how to register for this service).

Hub Sessions:

Kidderminster Medical Centre is the hub for Wyre Forest Health Partnership practices. 

We are open to see patients from across all six sites up until 20.30hrs Monday - Thursday and two Saturday mornings per month.

These clinics are run by GPs from across the Partnership.


Allocated Named GP:

All patients that are registered at Kidderminster Medical Centre have a named allocated GP who will oversee your care.

You are still entitled to see whichever Clinician you choose to. Please see our 'further information' section on the right.


On Line Patient Access:

On line access is available to all our patients aged 16 years and above.

The process is simple to sign up to  - you will need to attend the practice with one form of ID, the forms takes a couple of minutes to complete and gives you access to:

Ordering your repeat medications

Reviewing your upcoming appointments

Booking appointments with GPs and nurses.  You can also book appointments for smears, INR blood tests, flu vaccinations, child immunisations, phlebotomy clinic appointments and NHS health checks.
